Monthly Color: Sky Blue

I was stumbling my way through an interview with an intern candidate the other day. After we swapped stories of our educational experiences and life choices, she asked me “What’s your favorite thing about this place?” Gut reaction: my co-workers. No hesitation, no qualms, just those two simple words.

It’s not that I’ve had terrible co-workers in the past or that I haven’t had jobs that I’ve loved. It’s just that I want the people I spend more waking hours with than my husband to get me and for me to get them. It’s a mutual understanding that starts as soon as you walk through the doors here.

We share a lot of ideas here — big ones, small ones, great ones, and the occasional shitty one. I have a lot of shitty ideas. A LOT of shitty ideas. But the most magical thing about this place is that I’m never chastised for sharing them.

So when I was handed the reins of the April cover photo, it hit me. Another one of my shitty ideas: Have everyone dress in all denim and stand on a roof with me. And… they did it. When you work in an environment that supports big (sometimes out-there) thinking, no idea is too out of the blue.

redpepper is my people and my people support me — rain or shine, in the office or 50 feet up in the sky.
